Here’s an interesting read. Pitchfork has reported here and here that Eminen’s music publisher, Eight Mile Style, has filed a lawsuit against Spotify. The lawsuit claims that Spotify placed a number of his songs in a category called Copyright Control, which means that the copyright owner is unknown, resulting in him being inaccurately compensated. The suit also claims that the Music Modernization Act passed in 2018 may violate parts of the US Constitution by restricting these types of cases. It also sheds light the difficulty of auditing streaming logs containing millions of entries that each pay only a fraction of a penny to the copyright holders.
